The Department of Biostatistics was started as early as 1960, and the activities of the Department were looked after by Dr. C.K.Gupta initially. After his retirement, Dr. Mujeeb-ur-Rahman joined the Department as Lecturer in 2002 and continues to be the officer-in-charge of this Department. Activities of the Department In Research The primary duty of Biostatistics Department has been to provide statistical support to the ongoing research and clinical projects of both the Faculty and Students of V.P. Chest Institute, University of Delhi. In this process, it provides continuous help with the routine and state-of-the-art statistical methods at various stages of the research process viz. planning, implementation, analysis and reporting. Additionally, it provides guidance in data collection methods, assistance in data analysis and interpretation of results. It also helps the researchers and physicians in preparing manuscripts and writing reports. Statistical inputs are given to the grant proposals submitted to various funding agencies. The Department conducts classes for the teaching of Basics of Biostatistics and state-of-the-art statistical methods along with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to the Faculty and post-graduate students of VPCI, viz. M.D., D.T.C.D. and Ph. D., so that they use proper statistical methods for the analysis of their results. In Preparation of Reports An ongoing activity of the department is periodic preparation of reports. It prepares monthly, quarterly and half yearly reports on patient care, diagnostic services, & clinical services, community health care services, staff position, students enrolment in different courses, examination conducted, research projects, major equipment purchase, morbidity pattern report including deaths, communicable diseases report etc., for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and Directorate General Health Services, Government of Delhi etc. Details on the Services provided by the Department
